ERASE stands for Ending Reliance And Supporting Empowerment. The full name of our small charity is ERASE Foundation and was set up by Alwyn Simpson and his wife Jacqui in 2007. All our trustees volunteer their time for free, come from many different backgrounds, and offer a wide range of skills.
Our main objective is to provide resources and assistance to communities in West Africa, particularly Gambia. ERASE works to build social capital by bringing people and communities of all ages together, drawing on their strengths, skills and dreams, and by supporting self-empowerment. Our approach is to provide the resources and let the villagers do the work. In this way, we hope to end the awful and demeaning dependency culture that currently exists in poor communities in Gambia.
